LevMax-Health

By GrantHub Research Team ·

Research teams and nonprofit institutions working at the intersection of health innovation and life sciences in Alberta often face a familiar challenge: strong national-level proposals don’t always secure federal funding, even when the science is sound and the impact is clear. LevMax-Health was created to help close that gap, giving Alberta-based organizations a way to move high-quality health research projects forward and strengthen the province’s innovation ecosystem.

Delivered by Alberta Innovates, LevMax-Health provides non-repayable funding to support nationally competitive projects that align with Alberta’s health and life sciences priorities. The program is designed to build on proposals previously submitted to major Tri-Agency competitions, offering additional investment to advance projects that demonstrate strong potential but were not funded at the federal level. Funding can reach up to roughly $750,000 per project over a multi-year term, helping organizations cover a meaningful portion of research and development costs. Priority is often placed on initiatives that are digital or data-enabled, as well as those that take a One Health approach linking human, animal, and environmental health.

Running through 2028, LevMax-Health plays a strategic role in supporting Alberta’s research capacity and long-term health innovation goals. For nonprofits and research institutions looking to understand whether their project aligns with this opportunity, exploring the full program details can clarify the fit, expectations, and next steps.
