Offered by Government of Manitoba; Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership
For Manitoba’s agriculture and agri-food sector, staying competitive increasingly depends on the ability to adapt to climate pressures, improve sustainability, and translate research into real-world solutions. The Sustainable CAP — Research and Innovation program is designed to support that work by helping organizations move promising ideas from concept to application. Delivered through the Government of Manitoba under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, this initiative focuses on science-based projects that strengthen the long-term resilience and growth of the sector.
The program supports both researcher-led and industry-driven projects that explore new technologies, practices, and products across areas such as crop and livestock production, value-added processing, agri-resource management, and market analysis. Funding is non-repayable and typically covers a significant portion of eligible project costs, often up to about half, depending on the nature of the project and funding stream. In addition to basic and applied research, the program also places emphasis on capacity building, including investments in specialized research equipment and training that help build Manitoba’s innovation ecosystem.
Projects may run over multiple years and are geared toward practical outcomes, whether that means advancing knowledge, improving environmental performance, or addressing emerging challenges in food production and nutrition. While the current intake is closed, this program reopens periodically, making it worthwhile for eligible businesses, nonprofits, and research partners to monitor future opportunities and explore whether their innovation plans could align with upcoming intakes.
