Offered by Prairies Economic Development Canada
Trade disruptions and shifting tariff environments have created real pressure across the Prairie economy, especially for organizations working to support local businesses through rising costs and lost market access. For not-for-profit organizations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) offers an opportunity to secure significant funding to help businesses adapt, stabilize, and remain competitive. Delivered by Prairies Economic Development Canada, this initiative is designed to respond directly to the impacts of recent U.S. and China tariffs and related countermeasures.
Through RTRI, eligible not-for-profits can access substantial non-repayable funding, often reaching into the millions, to support projects that strengthen supply chains, improve productivity, or reduce the cost pressures caused by tariffs. This can include initiatives delivered through industry associations, incubators, educational institutions, or other organizations that play a meaningful role in supporting affected businesses. Funding is intended to cover a large share of project costs, making it easier to launch ambitious, high-impact initiatives that would be difficult to pursue otherwise.
The program is currently accepting applications and places emphasis on projects that generate clear regional economic benefits and support Prairie-based industries facing trade uncertainty. For organizations looking to play a leadership role in helping businesses navigate tariff challenges, learning more about how RTRI works could be an important next step.
