Regional Defence Investment Initiative

Northern Ontario businesses with technologies or capabilities that could support Canada’s defence and security priorities may find a timely opportunity through the Regional Defence Investment Initiative. As global defence spending increases and supply chains evolve, this initiative is designed to help Canadian companies and organizations strengthen their role in the defence ecosystem while building long-term industrial capacity at home.

Delivered in Northern Ontario by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario, the Regional Defence Investment Initiative focuses on helping small and medium-sized enterprises integrate into domestic and international defence supply chains. Support is also available for organizations working with dual‑use technologies, where a clear military application exists alongside civilian use. Projects often centre on scaling production, improving productivity, meeting defence-related standards, or adapting innovative technologies to address specific military needs. Non-repayable funding is available, with support levels varying based on the scope and impact of each project, and the program is currently accepting applications.
