Offered by Government of Prince Edward Island, Department of Agriculture and Land
Organic farmers in Prince Edward Island often face higher upfront costs when investing in equipment that supports soil health, weed control, and efficient crop management. The Organic Industry Development — Specialized Equipment program is designed to ease that burden by helping organic producers modernize their operations with tools that align with organic production practices. Delivered by the PEI Department of Agriculture and Land, this initiative focuses specifically on equipment that improves productivity while maintaining organic standards.
Through this program, eligible organic farms can receive non-repayable funding of up to about $15,000 to offset a portion of the cost of specialized equipment. This includes items commonly used in organic systems such as mechanical and flame weeders, inter-row cultivators, grain cleaning and drying equipment, pasture renovators, and cover crop or green manure seeding technology. By covering roughly half of eligible purchase costs, the program makes it more feasible for farms to adopt equipment that supports pest management, soil fertility, and overall farm efficiency.
The Specialized Equipment stream is part of PEI’s broader Organic Industry Development Program, which aims to strengthen the competitiveness and long-term growth of the province’s organic sector. While applications are currently paused due to high demand, the program is expected to reopen in the next funding cycle. For organic producers planning future equipment investments, learning more about how this support works can help position their farm to apply when funding becomes available again.
