Offered by Rupertsland Institute
Hiring and training new staff can be costly, especially for Alberta employers trying to build their workforce while managing tight budgets. Métis Employment Services, delivered by the Rupertsland Institute, helps ease that pressure by offsetting a portion of wage costs when businesses hire Métis individuals, particularly youth and early‑career workers. The program is designed to support meaningful, career‑related work experience while helping employers bring motivated candidates into their organization.
Through this initiative, eligible employers across Alberta can receive non‑repayable wage support covering up to roughly half of an employee’s wages for short‑term placements, including summer roles or contracts lasting several months. The program is commonly used to support youth employment during the May to August period, as well as longer placements focused on on‑the‑job training and skills development. In addition to wage subsidies, Rupertsland Institute connects employers with a pool of qualified Métis candidates and offers support that helps new hires transition successfully into the workplace.
Métis Employment Services is open to a wide range of organizations, including small and medium‑sized businesses, larger enterprises, and non‑profit organizations in Alberta. For employers looking to fill roles, develop future talent, and contribute to Indigenous workforce participation, this program can be a practical and flexible hiring solution. Exploring the full program details can help determine how this support fits with your staffing and training plans.
