FedNor — Regional Homebuilding Innovation Initiative for Northern Ontario

Housing builders and manufacturers in Northern Ontario facing rising demand and pressure to build faster, greener, and more efficiently may find meaningful support through FedNor’s Regional Homebuilding Innovation Initiative. This program is aimed at organizations that want to rethink how homes are designed, manufactured, and delivered, especially in regions where housing supply challenges are closely tied to construction capacity and innovation gaps.

Delivered by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario, the initiative supports projects that modernize the residential construction supply chain. Businesses and organizations working in construction, manufacturing, or housing-related innovation can access repayable funding of up to roughly $500,000 to invest in new technologies and approaches. This includes scaling modular or panelized construction, adopting mass timber or 3D printing, improving manufacturing efficiency, or advancing net-zero and climate-resilient housing solutions. Support can also extend to demonstration, commercialization, and productivity-enhancing investments that help bring homes to market more quickly.

The program is currently accepting applications and is designed for incorporated small and medium-sized businesses, not-for-profits, Indigenous organizations, and other qualifying entities with projects that strengthen Northern Ontario’s homebuilding ecosystem.
